Affirmations

What are affirmations?

An affirmation is a thought that we think over and over consistently, until it becomes a belief. A belief is just a thought that’s been mulled over till it’s a habit. Some habits are bad for us, like an addiction. Yet habits CAN be broken and new, better habits learned. Affirmations can be good for you or bad for you depending on whether they are fuelled by positive or negative thoughts.

It has been scientifically estimated that the average adult has over 60,000 thoughts per day.

Just think about that for a second, over 60,000 thoughts every day!

How many of those thoughts can you realistically remember with clarity? All that chatter that goes on in your head daily could be considered as affirmations which contribute to your life experiences and for ALL of us, do dictate our lives.

Some of these quite possibly, have been with you since you were a child and may have been something you were told, eg. ‘ you’ll never amount to much’, or ‘you don’t deserve that’, or ‘that’s sinful, you mustn’t do that’, or ‘how many times do I have to tell you, stop being so naughty’, or ‘you were born bad’.  Let me tell you now, not one person on this earth, dead or alive, was ever born bad!  Any hateful, spiteful and negative beliefs we carry around with us, were put there by others, usually at a very early stage in our development.

For the majority, these negative ‘beliefs’ stay with us through childhood and into our adult years and for a great number of us, can seriously damage our adult relationships.  Maybe you have similar chatter going on in your head?  For many this chatter goes relatively un-noticed until someone points out a particular distasteful trait you might be harbouring.  Until you get to the bottom of it, you’re stuck in a rut.  For others, a trip or several trips to the psychiatrist is often prescribed, and with that comes the stigma.

Well now there is something you can do about it!

Positive daily affirmations have been proven to have an almost magical effect on the lives of those who practice them AND for those who interact with them on a daily basis. Practice positive affirmations daily, ones that relate to different aspects of your life and you will see positive changes. When you practice them consistently, believing in them, your whole outlook on every subject will change as if by magic.

The following text was posted as a separate Post on July 30, 2010 under affirmations.  If you wish to read this or make a comment, please do so by clicking “here”.

Let’s start off simply.

When you wake first thing in the morning and you’re lying in bed.  Think of something pleasant, something (or someone) that makes you feel good.  Then say to yourself before getting up, “Today is a good day, because I choose it to be so”.  Lay there enjoying the comfort of your bed for a few more moments, then just get up and go about your normal routine.  Constantly say it to yourself as often as you can throughout your day.  If something (or someone) upsets you, try to think about the pleasant something again and repeat your affirmation over and over.

I cannot stress the importance of doing this consistently and believing in it.  Keep doing it daily and before you see it yourself, others will notice very small changes in you; more positive changes that will bring you rewards far greater than you can presently imagine.

I will be posting Affirmations regularly to keep you on track and will be categorizing them to make it easy for you to find a particular subject.  If you wish to leave a comment, you can do so at the end of each post.  Please keep up with them and I’d love to hear your news and stories.

Best of luck!
